AGENCY BACKGROUND:

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures, and develop their full potential.

 

PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

The children in our START with Hope program are in the U.S. as children whose parents/guardians are not physically with them. Our unique program is a residential treatment for unaccompanied minors. Many of our children have had to flee dangerous and violent situations in their own home countries and many are from Central and South America. Almost all of our children have suffered devastating loss through trauma, violence, abandonment, poverty, substance abuses, or abuse. We are seeking a caring, experienced Clinicians to work with our youth as they recover from trauma.

 

 

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or similar degree. NYS professional license (LMSW, LMHC) is a plus, but not required. Our clients are new to the U.S. and speak little or no English, therefore Clinicians MUST be bilingual in Spanish and English.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Social Work Degree or related field such as psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science in which clinical experience is a program requirement; LMSW preferred; NYS Licensed or license eligible. Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

• Must successfully complete all required training

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide mental health assessments, individual and group counseling sessions to UC
• Conduct screenings for human trafficking, trauma, and substance abuse
• Provide on-site Crisis intervention/Assessment/Rapid Intervention for any child identified as in need
• Coordinate and communicate mental health treatment needs of UCs within multi-disciplinary team
• Participation in on gong training initiatives
• Responsible for Implementation of SPARCS group treatment evidence-based modality and comply with timely reporting of standards as established by the model developer
• Prepare case notes for each session/contact and treatment summaries to report on progress or areas of concern
• Provide Clinical Supervision of Visitation when special request has been issued
• Work in partnership with the Lead Clinician in order to maintain compliance standards and develop strategies to promote growth and change within the program
• Provide 24 hour on call support to all agency personnel and ORR contacts.

Salary Range:
$62,000-$65,000

$1500 Hiring Incentive after 500 completed work hours
