YOUTH SUPPORT COUNSELORS

Youth Workers fulfill a vital role for our young people.  They watch and learn from you.  As they grow to know you, they begin to connect with you.  They begin to trust.  They begin to heal.
Can they be challenging?  YUP.  Can they be difficult?  Weren’t we all difficult as kids, especially during our teens years?  Residential placement may be the first safe place they’ve lived, but it's still scary for them.
It’s not easy work, but it’s fulfilling work.  We do require all staff to observe all HIPAA privacy regulations.  And, an accepting, affirming and non-judgement approach toward LGBTQ youth and staff is required.

Full-time and Per Diem schedules are available.  Most shifts are evenings and weekends, when the kids are not in school.  Weekends are generally required.  We have awake overnight positions available at some locations.

A 3 week PAID training (M-F, 10am – 6pm) is required.

What we require:  High School Diploma or Equivalent. Ability to work varied shifts.  A keen interest in helping kids.  NYS Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record preferred.

Brief outline of essential tasks:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients .

  • Maintain consistent daily routines of the living unit in accordance with Agency policy and treatment plan.

  • Supervise clients’ attendance/participation at structured activities (i.e. school, reaction, chores, meals).

  • Document clients’ behaviors and activities.

  • Safely transport clients to scheduled appointments, recreation events, home visits and sibling visits, etc.
