Description

Position Objective:

 

The Health Informatics Specialist (HIS) serves as a key member of the health office team and is responsible for ensuring that medical data is fully captured and on a timely basis. HIS is the EHR expert who ensures EHR functionality, including optimization of workflow processes and maintenance of clinic records. HIC is responsible for assessing, advising, and implementing EHR best practices. They are also responsible for third party vendor management related to EHR, and one of the key members to work to triage tech-based issues with the delivery of health information. The also provide in-services and computer training to current and new staff with the support of the Database Coordinator. HIS promotes future and present system functionality by designing, building, and testing clinical information systems and ensuring current systems work at an optimal level.


Responsibilities:

 

  • The Health Informatics Specialist (HIS) is responsible for supporting the Health Offices in ensuring that critical health information is entered into the agency’s Electronic Health Record (i.e. myEvolv from Netsmart).

  • They are also responsible for ensuring that critical medical administration data is uploaded onto the eMAR/electronic medication administration record and is responsible for triaging any issues related to application issues alongside the Database Coordinator.

  • HIS provides support with eMAR implementation and helps coordinate technical aspects of the eMAR implementation project. They are responsible for monitoring project progress and participating in testing and training on the technical components build of the eMAR, including providing mentoring to the health office staff.

  • HIS is the primary person within the Health Office with the support of the Database Coordinator to help triage, manage, troubleshoot, and apply resolution to tech related issues. They are responsible for providing prompt feedback to end users of the eMAR and other health applications regarding myEvolv issues, updates, and resolutions.

  • Monitor and maintain schedules, queues, logs, and processes such as Electronic Prescribing, eMAR monitoring as needed to ensure effective and efficient clinical software use and performance.

  • Provide clinical/monitoring data to the REACH department for reporting and analysis, support in facilitating and developing healthcare office workflows, assisting the REACH department with regulatory and compliance monitoring, including reaching agency and client outcomes and business objectives.

  • Optimize EHR functions and support efficient clinical workflows to improve the Quality of care and patient safety for MercyFirst clients.

  • Assist with the adherence of policies and procedures for the technical support of clinical informatics software in accordance with HIPAA and all other applicable regulatory agency requirements, and other guidelines as outlined by compliance mandates and REACH department protocols.



Qualifications
 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associates, prefer Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, healthcare, healthcare technology, teaching/education, or social services.

  • With a Combination of education and relevant work experience

Experience:

  • Healthcare background, experience and performance that promotes a high level of credibility with clinical professionals.

  • 2+ years’ experience or general knowledge of information technology in a healthcare setting.

Skills:

  • Excellent written, oral, instructional, presentation and interpersonal skills focused on motivation and a positive attitude.

  • Ability to research course development, delivery concepts and provide support to staff with technical issues.

  • Good analytical, problem-solving skills and ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Highly self-motivated, directed and change oriented. Strong client and customer service orientation.

  • Able to work, contribute to and flourish in a collaborative environment with the IT and REACH divisional members.

 

Computer Literacy:

  • Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn city state and federal data systems including NYC/ACS – CONNECTIONS and other databases.

  • Familiarity of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and utilization in a clinical or healthcare setting.
