MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures, and develop their full potential.



PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

Behavioral Health Services fosters an environment of clinical care driven by the physical and emotional needs of the clients and families we serve. These services are carefully assessed and administered through best practice by qualified professionals for optimal health outcomes.

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide a full range of clinical services to the residents of the Parent/Prenatal/Postnatal Residential Program and youth in foster care.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in social work with an LMSW or an MHC with a limited permit. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use accepted techniques of assessment and therapeutic intervention demonstrating competency in trauma treatment via individual and group sessions.
  • Provide individual counseling and treatment, substance abuse counseling and treatment, trauma-informed counseling and treatment, family and group counseling as needed.
  • To manage a caseload of 15 to 20 clients.
  • Work with the Treatment Team/Care Team to establish treatment goals for youth/children utilizing historical and current information available.
  • Practice use of Evidence-based treatment models: CBT, TF-CBT, SPARCS, ARC as needed.
  • Assist youth to develop skills as defined in treatment goals.
  • Provide youth and families with psychoeducation and wellness education.
  • Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic, emotional, physical, or psychological disturbances.
  • De-escalate emotional and/or physical outbursts using therapeutic crisis intervention.
  • Assist in psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Ensure the required documentation is completed within the required timeframes.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments including Health Office, Care Management, and EFFC.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients.
  • Actively participate in required individual and group supervision.

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000
$1500 hiring incentive after 500 worked hours
