Who We Are: Founded as an orphanage in 1894 by the Sisters of Mercy, MercyFirst today offers an integrated continuum of care for children in need, from birth through adolescence, including children who have been abused and neglected; youth with serious emotional problems; teenagers and young adults who are without family; and families coping with the stress and pressures of poverty, domestic violence, mental illness, and substance abuse.

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing direct case management services for UAC in the START program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide case management and family reunification services to UACs and identified sponsors/permanency resources
  • Responsible for the initial and ongoing assessment of the needs of each UAC, including initial and ongoing screening for human trafficking concerns
  • Adhere to mandates and regulations for UACs (ie: attending Immigration Court, providing related documentation to the judge)
  • Maintain contact with ORR regarding incident management and any changes in a UAC’s status
  • Prepare clear and accurate progress notes, needs assessments and Individual Service Plans
  • Arrange, prepare and access all discharge services needed for UACs to ensure timely discharge to approved sponsors
  • Maintaining consistent contact with family resources or sponsors through telephone contact, letters and home/agency visits

 

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

Required:

  • Bachelors of Social Work Degree or related field
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish, with proficiency in speaking and writing in both languages
  • Knowledge and training in working with children, adolescents and& families
  • Knowledge and training of US Immigration Laws/Systems;
  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to complex issues facing immigrants
  • Excellent organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to child welfare best practice standards
  • Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s mission, core values and Sanctuary commitments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
