Who We Are: Founded as an orphanage in 1894 by the Sisters of Mercy, MercyFirst today offers an integrated continuum of care for children in need, from birth through adolescence, including children who have been abused and neglected; youth with serious emotional problems; teenagers and young adults who are without family; and families coping with the stress and pressures of poverty, domestic violence, mental illness, and substance abuse.

MercyFirst is currently seeking a Medical Assistant

 

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have completed Medical Assistant training program.  Current CPR certification required.  Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record for most positions.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 1 year related experience required.  Knowledge of infection control.

 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Medical Assistant will assist the Medical team in providing a safe and knowledgeable Medical in a residential setting.

Outline of essential tasks:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients 
  • Take vital signs
  • Obtain certain lab specimens
  • Administer hearing and vision tests
  • Perform infection control inspections for all cottages and group homes
  • Instruct staff on proper infection control techniques
  • Organize supplies and stock exam rooms with necessary items
  • Perform EKG tests as ordered by physician
  • Electronic Health Record-Data entry responsibilities
  • Specialty Care Referrals and outreach to obtain medical findings/records from external provider
  • Dental Referrals
  • Coordinate requests for Medical Escort/Transportation to medical appointments
  • Track and process invoices for payment with the Fiscal department
  • Document observations and activities
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients 
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff.
