BRIEF SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Recreation Specialist will supervise, instruct and carry out all programs of recreation, including special events, recreational programming and trips on a campus wide base and ensures that all activities encompass the therapeutic needs of the children.

Brief outline of essential tasks:

Plan, arrange and conduct recreational activities that are age appropriate and developmentally appropriate taking into account abilities, interests, past experiences, etc. of assigned youth to meet their needs appropriately.

Provide direct supervision and support to the youth and staff during designed recreational events/activities

Promote skill development of both the residents and staff

Coach staff to uses the recreational activities as a means of positive client engagement

Promote integration of recreational programming with community resources and skills development

Encourage and enhance compliance with behavioral expectations
-
Structure activities/events/interventions to decrease problem behavior and increase developmentally appropriate pro-social behavior

Participate as a member of the treatment team.

Follow all safety regulations and requirements while supervising residents.

Demonstrate knowledge of human development stages.

Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic or emotional, physical or psychological disturbances.

Document clients’ behaviors and activities.

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Humans Services with experience in Child Welfare programming and a valid NYS Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Prior experience in providing recreation services for adolescents in a residential setting
