Who We Are: Founded as an orphanage in 1894 by the Sisters of Mercy, MercyFirst today offers an integrated continuum of care for children in need, from birth through adolescence, including children who have been abused and neglected; youth with serious emotional problems; teenagers and young adults who are without family; and families coping with the stress and pressures of poverty, domestic violence, mental illness, and substance abuse.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF POSITION: The caseworker will provide the clients and their families/primary resource persons with intensive casework and all services offered by the Agency and/or community.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate in a professional manner to children, families, peers, outsides agencies/vendors.

  • Demonstrate a willingness to take on new responsibilities and alter performance with changing needs.
  • Continually seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their department and the agency.
  • Organize tasks, data and work area.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Brief outline of essential tasks:

  • Conduct regular casework sessions with each client in accordance with Federal, State, and Local mandates.
  • Conduct regular home visits and maintain regular contact with birth parents, foster parents, and/or resource persons in accordance with mandates
  • Holds bi-weekly individual Sociotherapist sessions with each client and family for their first 3 months in program
  • Document all contacts in appropriate computer systems within established timeframes
  • Prepare all required documentation on each case which could include progress notes, psychosocial reports, permanency hearing notes, FASPs, etc.
  • Attend legal proceedings such as family court hearings
  • Actively participate in staff training and supervision meetings.
  • Arrange, monitor and document home visits, family/sibling visits.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed and/or directed


Qualifications:

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field. Must maintain a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 1+ years work related experience with the knowledge and training in working with children and families including child development stages and family dynamics.
