AGENCY BACKGROUND:

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State and current CPR certification and completion of required courses in Child Abuse and Infection Control. Must have and maintain a Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record. 5 plus years prior administrative and supervisory clinical experience with adolescents in a psychiatric setting. Completion of required courses in Child Abuse and Infection Control. Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of children and adolescents. 

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing and providing the best possible nursing care to the  clients. Provide supervision and guidance to assigned staff. Serve as health educator to clients. Serve as shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides Clinical supervision of Nursing staff according to the scope of practice and incompliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations to include NYSED where applicable.
  • Works with the Treatment Team/Care Team to establish treatment goals for youth/children utilizing historical and current information available.
  • Provide support and training to staff to improve the delivery of services and client outcomes.
  • Conduct Nursing Health Assessments for Infants, Children, Adolescents, developmental assessments including HIV Risk Assessments, body checks for physical abuse, General First Aide and Triage Activities (Vaccines and Bloodwork).
  • Routine management and training regarding chronic conditions (Asthma, Diabetes).
  • Training and Health Education related to Sexual Reproductive Health.
  • Provides emergency and after-hours physical health consultation.
  • Oversees medication management, documentation and reconciliation.
  • Check stock, order vaccines and supplies.
  • Supervise the adequate removal of hazardous waste.
  • Coordinate adequate Nursing staff coverage.
  • Ensure required documentation for all case actions (medical notes) are completed within established timeframes.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff.
  • As a Member of Management Team, advises MercyFirst Administrative staff on the emerging and chronic health needs of the youth in care and makes recommendations for the modification/expansion of services.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate all assigned staff.
  • Maintain a safe and secure medical environment for clients.

Salary Range $50 - $65/hr.

Hiring bonus of $1,000 after 500 worked hours
