Recreation Specialist

We are a large non-profit organization specializing in the treatment and recovery of abuse/neglect children.  If you've ever wanted to make a difference, this is it!

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or in Recreation, with emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation; certification by the National Therapeutic Recreation Society and a valid NYS Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Prior experience in providing recreation therapy services for  adolescent females in a residential setting.

Brief outline of essential tasks under the Supervision of the Recreation Coordinator:

• Plan, arrange and conduct therapeutic recreational activities that are age appropriate and developmentally appropriate taking into account abilities, interests, past experiences, etc. to meet their needs appropriately.
• Participate as a member of the treatment team.
• Follow all safety regulations and requirements while supervising residents.
• Demonstrate knowledge of human development stages.
• Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic or emotional, physical or psychological disturbances.
• Document clients’ behaviors and activities.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries.
