Who We Are: Founded as an orphanage in 1894 by the Sisters of Mercy, MercyFirst today offers an integrated continuum of care for children in need, from birth through adolescence, including children who have been abused and neglected; youth with serious emotional problems; teenagers and young adults who are without family; and families coping with the stress and pressures of poverty, domestic violence, mental illness, and substance abuse.
 

POSITION SUMMARY:   This position is responsible for development, assessment and operational oversight of safety measures and security devices installed throughout the Syosset living units, school building and grounds; provides direction and consultation to Administrators on Duty and Campus Support Team promote consistency in emergency interventions to sustain or restore safety. This position is also the primary liaison to Nassau County 2nd Precinct. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS –.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:  Required:  Bachelors or Masters Degree and 5 years of experience in law enforcement, school safety, security management or security technology; Strong Leadership, Organizational, Communication and Analytical skills;  Knowledge of and commitment to best practice standards related to safety and security in congregate care settings; Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s mission, core values and Sanctuary commitments; Valid New York State Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record and ability to travel in and around the Long Island region; Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule and to be on call for emergencies; Proficiency in Microsoft Office

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Overall development and management of operational systems related to strategies to enhance and sustain physical safety and security on the 48 acre campus in accordance with all applicable OCFS standards, procedures, regulations, laws; Provision of regular and timely reports to Executive staff regarding campus security operations,; Establish and sustain a workplace environment that is respectful and supportive of residents, staff, family, community service providers, and other external stakeholders; Represent the agency and campus programs at external and internal planning/management meetings; Maintain compliance tracking and performance management systems to consistently monitor program outcomes and implement corrective action plans when necessary.

 

Development and Implementation of Security policy and protocols, Staff Training to promote continuity of practice to enhance and sustain safety measures; Equipment recommendations and assessments, oversee installation, repairs and upgrades when indicated; Critical Incident Reviews and Leadership of Monthly Panel Reviews to examine trends and corrective actions, Conduct Fire Safety, Evacuation and Active Shooter Drills and analyze outcomes; Daily Video Reviews; Participation in agency investigations; Leadership of quarterly consultations with 2nd precinct Commander.
